La Poste experiments with parcel delivery by cargo sailboat

As part of its sustainable logistics strategy, La Poste is innovating by experimenting with a sea-sailing solution to transport parcels to Guadeloupe. A first departure took place on Monday April 28 from the port of Fécamp.

Fast, reliable, low-carbon logistics

For the first time, La Poste is using a cargo sailboat to transport parcels to Guadeloupe. This unprecedented initiative is part of a low-carbon logistics strategy. Thanks to this innovative mode of transport, TOWT's cargo sailboats are capable of reducing emissions by up to 95%, while maintaining delivery times comparable to market standards, or even faster.

TOWT offers a stable, secure and competitive solution, capable of meeting the challenges faced by companies, while combining logistical performance and environmental commitment: controlled lead times, optimized loading/unloading operations (it is possible to load or unload a vessel in less than 24 hours), stable prices, independent of variations in the cost of fossil fuels, and a significant reduction in carbon footprint.

Service for a wide range of goods

1000 parcels bound for Guadeloupe were loaded aboard the sailboat Artemis, built by French start-up TOWT, for an Atlantic crossing under sail.

Thanks to its ventilated, compartmentalized holds, the sailboat can transport a wide variety of products under controlled conditions: spirits, textiles, tea, coffee, pharmaceutical products, etc. Thermal variations are very limited, guaranteeing the quality of the goods throughout the journey. Colissimo has chosen sail transport for many of its parcels. “Colissimo is proud to be the first delivery operator to experiment with sailing transport. Setting sail from Fécamp for 13 days, these 1,000 parcels bound for Guadeloupe will benefit from a reduced carbon footprint compared with usual air transport. With this experiment, Colissimo is once again innovating in favor of sustainable, low-carbon logistics, and supporting an emerging French player in the market to contribute to its development,” explains Sonia Scharfman, Director of Colissimo's International Business Unit.

An expanding network

After Pointe-à-Pitre, TOWT plans to open new routes to Guatemala, Colombia and Brazil, strengthening its presence on major transatlantic trade routes. Other ports of call are being considered for 2026. With two vessels already in operation and six new ones under construction, TOWT intends to gradually increase the frequency of its departures and offer shippers reliable, regular and competitive logistics solutions.
