La Banque Postale signs a strategic partnership with Mistral AI to accelerate progress in AI
This three-year partnership aims to implement Mistral AI’s language models on La Banque Postale’s servers and in its data center, in a secure, sovereign environment, to support employees, businesses and customers. It also includes the integration of a dedicated Mistral AI team within the bank’s development teams.
This initiative is part of the strategy implemented by Caisse des Dépôts group to foster digital sovereignty through its Horizon Numérique 2030 plan. Following a successful one-year initial testing phase, the alliance between La Banque Postale and Mistral AI represents a defining milestone in the AI strategy of the banking group which is a subsidiary of La Poste Groupe: introducing a generative AI platform within the bank, coupled with made-to-measure support for its IT teams during the adoption of Mistral AI’s major
language models. This platform, which will be hosted locally within La Banque Postale’s IT infrastructure (on premise) will allow La Banque Postale to rapidly deploy high-performance generative AI solution at scale, enabling it to maintain control over its data and address the security and sovereignty requirements specific to its highly regulated banking environment.

With Mistral AI, La Banque Postale has opted for high-performance models that are optimised in terms of energy consumption and compatible with banking sector compliance and regulatory considerations. They are in line with the approach initiated by the Caisse des Dépôts Group which advocates digital sovereignty via its 2030 Digital Horizon plan.
Horizon numérique 2030 is a large-scale strategic plan launched by Caisse des Dépôts group, designed to accelerate the digital transformation of the French and European economies and to bolster the technological sovereignty of territories. With a massive commitment of €18 billion by 2030, Horizon numérique 2030 is fully aligned with the Group’s public interest mission : to support and drive major transitions and prepare for the future.
A strategy built on three key focuses
La Banque Postale aims to gradually roll out these generative AI solutions to all employees, with an initial phase of 5,000 employees as of 2026. This roll out will be accompanied by training for employees in these new usages to support the development of businesses and skills. The programme is underpinned by three principles :
AI for all which aims to provide employees with a personal assistant through Mistral AI’s Le Chat solution to help them carry out everyday tasks ;
AI for IT to give the bank’s IT development teams access to the Mistral Code solution to improve the efficiency and quality of certain development tasks ;
AI for business which aims to accelerate the pace of the bank’s transformation by integrating AI into its business processes. Examples of use will include customer relations, the prevention of money laundering and fraud, and will be processed using made-to-measure solutions developed with Mistral Studio tools, in cooperation with the relevant businesses.
I welcome this collaboration with a leading European player in AI, with whom we share common values. This partnership will allow us to roll out high-performance, sovereign and energy efficient AI solutions which are perfectly aligned with our goal: balancing economic performance, sovereignty requirements and sustainability. It marks a new phase for La Banque Postale and its employees, with the aim of making AI accessible to as many people as possible, tangibly improving customer experience, while retaining control over our data.
