A work shadowing internship gives you a much clearer view

Whether for a few days or a fortnight, a career introduction internship introduces you to how teams work together, what a real-world career looks like and what ‘working in a company’ means on a daily basis. It’s also a great way of clarifying your preferences, confirming your feelings about a career, and exploring avenues you may not have thought of before. This first introduction could be a little overwhelming, so our professionals are there to welcome and guide you through. Parents can have complete confidence, because all our internships are regulated, and details are available via French government official platforms and from post offices.

Whether yours is a Year 10 or Year 11 internship, you’ll be taking a decisive first step towards a career

There are differences between the Year 10 and Year 11 internship experiences. The first is often a very first step into the world of work. The second gives you a bit more time to look closer, compare opportunities and start to focus on what you really like the look of. But in both cases, the basic idea is simple: to help you explore real-world careers, teams and working methods. Ideal for getting a clearer initial idea and helping you look a little further into the future.

Year 10 work shadowing internship: a first glimpse into the world of work

The Year 10 internship is often the first opportunity you will have had to really experience a company environment from the inside. Over five days, this internship will let you see how things really work. How a team works, what a day on the frontline of the business is like, etc. At La Poste Groupe, this experience may be in a post office, a financial centre or even a logistics hub! You’ll visit a site, attend introductory presentations, talk to group employees, and progress step by step through an internship programme designed to introduce you to a range of careers.

This internship has helped me to get a clearer view of the direction I want to go in and what it’s like to work in a company. I didn’t feel like an observer, but more like a part of an ecosystem in which everyone has their own role to play. I was able to attend meetings, events and collaborative working sessions alongside employees. People my age would definitely benefit from this kind of experience to help them decide on their own futures.

Year 11 work shadowing internship: more time to explore

The two-week Year 11 internship programme is designed to take you beyond an initial introduction to the workplace. You’ll have more time to familiarise yourself with a working environment, see how a team organises itself on a day-to-day basis, observe different careers and gain a clearer understanding of what lies behind the job titles. Having more time means you can ask more questions, compare the options you like with those you don’t, and begin to form a clearer idea of the direction you might want to go in.

Parents: June internships are now mandatory. We understand that finding the right assignment for your child can quickly become a logistical challenge when you’re juggling meetings. Don’t panic! Our in-depth sessions are designed to introduce them to a real working environment in complete safety. So you can relax in the knowledge that they are receiving the right quality of help and support as they take their first steps into the world of work.

Internships for all stages of study

In addition to Year 10 and 11 internships, La Poste Groupe is also happy to accept interns at other stages of their studies, subject to the right opportunities being available. These internships may vary in level and duration, and cover a broad diversity of career options, including customer relations, logistics, digital, central services, banking, insurance and customer-facing roles.

But their aim remains the same: to give you the opportunity to experience a working environment, contribute to practical assignments and gain a better understanding of our career options. The most effective way to find these opportunities is to view the published internship vacancies and check the detailed conditions for each.

Questions - answers

Do you need to have a specific career in mind before starting an internship?

No, quite the opposite, in fact! We’re certainly not expecting you to have your career all planned out at the age of 14 or 15. Think of this internship as a kind of laboratory where you’ll explore and test your initial thoughts and, most importantly, rule out those options that don’t appeal to you.

Will you encounter different career options or have a single assignment?

We think big! You won’t be limited to experiencing a single career. You’re going to find out how everything around you works. You’ll meet a number of different professionals who’ll explain what their jobs are really like. So it’s ideal for exploring all our opportunities.

Do you need to write a cover letter for an introductory internship?

It isn’t always compulsory, but a short, clear and persuasive internship cover letter can help you stand out from the crowd! There’s no need to write pages and pages: just tell us, in your own words, why our working environment appeals to you and what you hope to discover in your time with us. Need a bit of help getting started? Have a look at our practical tips on how to write it effectively.

Will your child really be properly looked after during their internship?

Let us reassure you straight away: your child will never be left unsupervised. They will be welcomed by a mentor or dedicated team keen to help them discover the real world of work, whilst, of course, ensuring that all safety guidelines and instructions are fully complied with.

Do you offer regulated internships for those not in either Year 10 or Year 11?

Absolutely! As well as internships for students in secondary education, we also welcome those of school leaving age (BTS, First degree, Master’s degree, etc.) throughout the year for regulated internships of several months. Whether you’re interested primarily in customer-facing roles, digital, logistics or central services, we’re sure to have an assignment for you.
